This story, set in 1775, tells of a respectable peace-loving farmer's determination to save his rebellious bastard son from being hanged for his involvement in a treasonous plot. The farmer gets involved in a series of frightening or funny situations in unfamiliar London. Matters become more intense when he returns to his home village only to find the rebel gang have preceded him and are creating mayhem. Can he yet rescue his wayward son and save his home village from destruction? The story is told from three points of view;- Farmer William, wife Anne, and son Billy, and these principal characters are well drawn and their seperate dilemmas illustrated through their actions, rather than lengthy description. The pace of the story increases as it goes on and the action becomes steadily more intense. It's a rollicking adventure. The reader is drawn into the fevered atmosphere of the times, and feels empathy for the people involved. Historical novel lovers of all ages and genders ...This story, set in 1775, tells of a respectable peace-loving farmer's determination to save his rebellious bastard son from being hanged for his involvement in a treasonous plot.
