My mother confirmed that my affliction with all things railways started early as at age two I could not be induced to pass the local station without being allowed time to stand and stare. Little has changed except that I can go on my own now. After a tumultuous and interesting life (in the sense of the apocryphal Chines proverb)as a professional engineer and designer for London Underground I have now settled into a hectic retirement as a public speaker and now author. Just in case there was a risk of boredom I now have the honour of being the Chairman of my local railway enthusiasts society.
I am blessed, if that’s the right word, with three children, a Victorian house with complimentary rising damp and a temperamental French car.
