About me

I started writing while teaching, just as the first PC’s came on the market, and eventually had enough courage to give up the day job – hundreds of ‘magazine’ short stories, serials and travel-related and general interest features published, and also a novel (‘Tiger Country’) and a book for beginner writers, ‘How to Turn Your Holidays into Popular Fiction’). I’ve got 2 more pet novel projects on the go, but there’s no real interest out there. Both are ‘popular’ rather than literary. I believe many readers (especially a large swathe of the huge women’s market) are not being catered for by mainstream publishers who seem to think what is needed is more sex and violence. My fiction niche is ‘romance with an edge of exotic adventure’ involving ordinary people in challenging circumstances, in believable relationships rather than unrealistic ones. Call me old-fashioned. I probably am.

Ah, I'm going to be knee-deep in students for the next few weeks, so can't write a review now, but it's a thought and discussion-provoking story. (more) and earned+3

It is not a criticism of the story in any way. (more) and won+3

Actually I've toned some of the language down, but I'm inclined to think that what people regard as blasphemy is often more to do with their culture than their religious beliefs. The priests I knew in West Africa were never judgmental, and wouldn't have lasted long if they had been. Sorry if it offends, but the dialogue has to be fairly realistic. Do hope the end doesn't shock you too much. Your feedback is always much appreciated, Kate (more) and bagged+3

Am enjoying slowly reading the Wine is Red, and my only problem has been the number of times the charcters blaspheme. Am fine with swearing, but not taking God's name in vain, and in my ecperience, whenever anyone says it around a priest, the priest will say something like 'Praise him'. But the story is riveting and it's good the way things are gradually revealed. (more) and received+3
