Stephen describes himself as primarily a poet and this fact is evident from his writing; he can certainly paint a picture with words.
The reader has no trouble picturing the scene, be it the smoky interior of a fisherman’s Inn or a dangerous storm lashed cliff top at night, Stephen has the ability to transport the reader there. You can almost feel the spray in your face. There can be no doubt about Stephen’s ability to write beautifully and keep the reader enthralled.
If I have a criticism it would be that Stephen sometimes sacrifices dialogue for description, but this did not mar my enjoyment of the stories which are varied in both subject and length.
Would I read Stephen's work again? Yes.
