Guillermo Martinez takes his understanding of the city of Oxford and wraps a murder mystery into the fabric of the university - his protagonist a student who bares witness to murder, death and confusion, taken under the wing of a professor who helps him to understand a cryptic code left by the murderer. Much like many of the other crime novels of recent times, Martinez chooses to have a genius and a sidekick go along solving crimes, and much like other crime novels, the ending has a massive twist. The book suffers a lot in translation to English - many passages read quite strangely, and the book does not feel natural in translation. Regardless, it takes an existing location and fits a quite intricate narrative into a very short novel - quick yet detailed and entertaining to read.
