I will now admit to breaking the law every time I went into Alice. Indeed, I broke it regularly once inside by buying beer. I was only just 16 when I first walked down those stairs in 1985. I'd have to wait for the milk train back to deepest, darkest Sussex at 5am the next morning to get back for school!
That aside, anyone who went to Gossips on a Monday evening really ought to read A Pretty Smart Way to Catch a Lobster, if only to give those old braincells a nudge to remember what bloody good fun it was and how very influential it became.
Christian Paris has some nice stories to tell and a brilliant memory for which bands played when. Also he's put in some decent photos. Oh how I wish there were more, but these were the days before digital camera phones! I was delighted to see myself in a picture. Thanks for that, Mr Paris!
