Let me set the scene, a persevering but ever so slightly cynical writer, shoves aside the growing pile of rejection slips and steels himself for a fresh start and what better way to start afresh than with a new name and a female name at that. So the persevering writer gets out pencil and paper and does anagrams of his own name until he comes up with a suitably literary sounding female nom de plume.
With new name and new enthusiasm he begins the familiar round of entering short story competitions and sending novel extracts to publishers and agents. Then miracle of miracle a short story is selected for inclusion in a soon to be published anthology.
