I have uploaded my manuscript several times, producing a readable PDF and inviting me to move on to cover creation, however when I try to move on in the publishing process the manuscript is reported as being unusable.
If there is a problem with the manuscript, I need to understand what it is so that I don’t need a manual conversion every time I update it.
If there is a problem with the procedure I am following I need that explained for the same reason.
If there is a problem with something on the site, then please let me know so that I can stop worrying about it.
I’m using libre office (the new version of open office) and exporting to a PDF A file with the fonts embedded.
I’m uploading using the browse button, and the manuscript always converts successfully into a readable PDF which I am invited to download and the button for the cover creator is active.
When I come back from the cover creator the manuscript is declared to be unsuitable in some way, but there are no further clues as to what is going wrong.
    Please help !!

This was resolved by trial and error .
I installed the MS font pack into Linux so that my fonts are the same as Word, then saved the Libre Office document in Word 97 format. This went through the conversion process and more importantly stayed converted.
Of course this could just be a coincidence and maybe there was a fix put into the converter at the same time as I was mucking about with fonts and document formats.

      Hi,

Fonts are the core problem to manuscript conversions. Commercial printers are very strict on full font sets being included for two reasons – licensing and reproduction accuracy.

Our converter will ensure most most common fonts are replaced but at the moment can fall short on proprietary fonts like times new roman.

We do have a new converter we’re testing which will support a lot more fonts but is still a few weeks from being ready.

If you have any conversion problems then please feel free to send me a note and I’ll check the files through.

If you are having trouble then it is normally best to use common fonts and save the document to a MS Word document.

    • Hi Oliver,

If times new roman is a proprietary font, can you advise which fonts always work with the current converter and the font sizes most suitable if this is a factor in successful conversion?
