Writing can be so personal and so important to us, it’s easy to see how the activity can lead to excessive anxiety and eventually a reduction in the writer’s output. Have any budding novelists here ever suffered from ’Writer’s Block’? If so, I would be very interested to hear how you responded to it and whether you discovered any strategies to overcome it.

yeah i have quite a few times, the best thing to do is try to find something that motivates you or the thing that first made you want to do writing, with me it can certain songs that make me get back in to writing or just taking a nice long walk and listen to some music.

Great ideas, especially the walking. I always find that, if I get stuck with my work, a long walk in the park usually fixes the problem!

I have not experienced writers block as of yet, I’m very pleased to say.
On the occasions I lose direction, not the same as block, that is I have the ideas, but need to sort how best to fit them in, I do what seems to be a popular action, I go for a walk, I have four Labradors, and take them into the woods, that gives me the air to breath, and think in.
I’m currently about 25000 words into my latest novel, (online should anyone wish to read it) its called the Answer, inspired by the woods funny enough.
Anyone got any other methods to get the grey cells working?

For me the worst part is getting writers’ block mid sentence, it’s as if that part of my brain has simply switched off. No matter what I have to leave my book and do something, anything that takes me away from writing. It may last and hour or a day but I think the best thing to do is something pleasureable; a favorite song, a favorite movie. Forget about writing and enjoy yourself. You’ll be back at the keyboard before you know it.
