CN Central: Should I include a Copyright page, and what information should be on it?

    Hi again,

    Does the system generate the copyright page once the manuscript has been uploaded or do I have to have one already written, which I then modify with the publisher information, ISBN etc. ?

      Hi Paul,
      No, the system doesn’t generate a copyright page so it is up to you to write it and add in at the front of your manuscript. As you probably have already, it is a good idea to look at the copyright page in a published book of a similar type to yours and see what they include. Usually it’s along the lines of the following:

      • (If fiction) include a statement saying that the novel is entirely a work of fiction Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental
      • The year when first published
      • The publisher (you may have your own publisher name that you want to include there, or you can put CompletelyNovel.com
      • Who the copyright owner is (this should be you) i.e. ‘Copyright © John Smith 2011’
      • The ISBN
      • Where the book is printed
      • A statement reminding the reader that the book can’t be copied without your consent (unless you are happy for people to do this) e.g. ‘All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted, in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording or otherwise, without the prior permission of the publishers.’

      So, I draft it out and fill in the missing pieces of ISBN and the name of the publisher before its uploaded. Clearly, I need that info from the CompletelyNovel system once I’ve taken up the subscription. Do they just provide that information once the subscription is in place? I’m guessing I just edit the copyright page at that point and then do the upload. Is this correct?

      Hi Paul, you will have the isbn number as soon as you buy the isbn, so you will need to enter initial details to get this and then edit your manuscript. the publisher is simply ‘CompletelyNovel,com’ so, for example, if the book is published in the UK you can say: ‘Printed and bound in Great Britain by CompletelyNovel.com’.

      I’m waiting for my manuscript to be reviewed by a researcher in the US. It has already been reviewed by a number of people in the UK. So, I will subscribe and get the ISBN etc. once this has been done.

      Presumably, once I have drafted the copyright page this will be checked by someone within CN prior to any publishing steps – is this correct?

      Do you have any examples of copyright pages of books produced through CN? I of course have examples of books but none by self-published authors so I am not entirely sure which parts may be left out.

      One final question – if you list books on Amazon are they available on Amazon in all countries or just the UK?

      If you want an example of a copyright page, just click ‘read’ and have a look at the available books that you can read for free.
      I would also like to know if books will be available on Amazon US…anyone?

      In order to get your book up on Amazon you need to sign up to a CompletelyNovel Plus or Pro account. You can find the details here: http://completelynovel.com/self-publishing

      When you are creating your book you should select the option to have the books printed by LightningSource, and this will enable US Amazon as well as UK.

      Thank you so much Anna! After many days of searching for a publisher, i’m soo glad i found this site!
      One thing though – do you the difference between ‘extended’ distribution in the plus account and ‘full’ distribution in the pro account (or are they just the same)?
