I am looking at self-publishing my Grandfather’s book on Completely Novel which was originally published in 1995. I have been having issues with the printers of the book, and more so now that my Grandfather died in March this year. He put me in charge of the sale of his book, and I also run his website. Now he’s died my Mum and Aunt have given me sole responsibility for the book and what I’d like to do with it.
The printing costs have been really high, so Completely Novel seems like a much better way of publishing and selling the book. I’m not really interested in making a profit, it’s more about keeping my Grandfather’s book in circulation.
My question is if I publish the book on here, can it have the same ISBN it currently already has? I have noticed that an earlier edition is shown in My Portfolio now I’ve started the process and it’s public. I’m slightly confused why this has come up? There are no further details for this edition though, but it seems as though it’s probably the first edition, whereas we’re now on the third.
I hope someone can give me some advice…
I think I just found my answer on another post, if I bring the ISBN it already has then you won’t be able to deal with distribution… That’s good to know, I will start off with this and then look at creating a new one, as I plan to move to France and this would mean I wouldn’t be able to manage distribution myself.
Yes – that’s right. For other users, here’s another question that asks about using your own ISBN.
