Most of my ideas for books are inspired by events in real life, and this one is no exception. The idea occurred to me as I was pushing my grandson in his buggy along a narrow path flanked by a profusion of plants and weeds, including nettles, which I was trying to knock out of the way with a stick.

I therefore dedicate the book to my grandson, Liam Haines.
