Review
I found I got through this book surprisingly fast- although I wouldn’t describe it as gripping, it has a rapid pace and the family’s constant travel and exposure to danger makes you want to keep up and make sure they’re ok. While it is generally light hearted in tone, periodic observations and details remind you that all of the ‘characters’ are real people and really make the war zone background to the family’s daily life hit home. Although it is hardly a gruelling read, it made me realise just how easily we can switch off our awareness of foreign conflict when we switch off the TV.
