Some good news came in over the weekend that I can’t quite keep to myself…one of CompletelyNovel’s own has been shortlisted for the UK Young Publishing Entrepreneur Awards. Well, to be specific, it’s me …although obviously when you are in a small start-up everything is a team effort, it’s just somethimes you have to put an individual forward for something rather than the company. Unfortunately for the others however, there is only one place on the trip to South Africa for those on the shortlist…sorry guys! The UKYPE award is run by the British Council, who run a series of other awards for entrepreneurs across the creative industries as part of their Creative Economy programme. They have a market focus each year, and this year it is South Africa; last year it was India. Also shortlisted are Daniel Crewe, Profile Books, Julia Kingsford, Foyles, Rachael Ogden , Inpress Ltd, Mark Searle, Elliot & Thompson Ltd and Gavin Weale of Live Futures Ltd

It seems as though even post Colin Firth (we all remember that lake scene!), the obsession with Mr Darcy continues. The most popular book so far to be customised on CompletelyNovel’s Personalised Books service has been ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen. Despite personalised books being typically aimed at children, it seems there is a real demand amongst the ladies out there to put themselves, or their best friends in the role of Elizabeth Bennet… so they can have a fictional romance with Mr Darcy!

I headed over to the British Library last night to do a spot of filiming for Palgrave Macmillan’s ‘Future of Work’ Event. It was an evening chaired by Adrian Furnham where we heard from Richard Donkin and other experts in the field of work, looking at what the workplace may have in store for us in the future. What changes are we seeing, and are we currently facing a watershed moment? We’ll be publishing the video in a few weeks time for you to hear more of what they had to say…but if you can’t wait, head over to the Palgrave website to check out the speakers and their books!

Yes – ye festive season is upon us and here at CompletelyNovel, we may have come up with a gift idea that will be a big winner for book fans. Using our links to Print-on-Demand printing, we are offering you the chance to buy personalized classic novels for your friends and family. And when we say ‘personalized’ we mean the whole works… your own photo on the front cover (incorporated into one of our special designs), a dedication on the back cover and customised character names inside the novel. It can give a fresh (and very funny) twist to a classic book that will make a fantastic present. Visit our Personalized-books page to find out more!
