Are you a UK based author? Have you thought about paying a visit to the London Book Fair? Authors are becoming a larger element publishing conferences. It may sound odd, but they have previously been on the sidelines of big industry events. The change is most likely due to an increasing number of authors performing spectacularly without the backing of a publisher, as well as recognition that authors’ involvement and understanding of the evolving nature of design, marketing and selling of books is important to the industry’s future.

Most of us have probably spent at least an evening or two (likely with a few beers) disussing the kind of bar we would set up if we had the chance. However, it’s not many who actually put their plans into practice, and even fewer who end up writing a book about it. Christian Paris has a fascinating story to tell (featuring celebs, much merriment and ‘The Weirdo Terrapin girl(???)) so we wanted to know more about how he ended up publishing it with CompletelyNovel! He tells us about the tricky writing process, the highly original marketing he’s done and the feedback he’s had so far.

Some of the nation’s favourite books have been those that weave historical events and characters into a narrative which goes beyond that which academics can truly verify, but seem to capture the truth of a story more vividly than facts can do by themselves. Author C.A. Hope has done just this in her historical novel ‘New Lanark – Spinning New Lives’. We’re delighted that CompletelyNovel has played a part in making this important book available to the world. Released on March 1st this novel brings alive the human story behind the New Lanark Mills made famous by social reformer Robert Owen.

Here at CompletelyNovel HQ we have just read Mary Hamer’s award-winning novel Kipling & Trix, published by Aurora Metro Books. It’s a fascinating read about the lives of Rudyard Kipling and his talented but little-known sister Trix. What particularly intrigued us was how she managed to write such a convincing fictionalised account of the lives of these two extraordinary historical characters. We were therefore delighted that she agreed to be interviewed and share her experiences of writing her first work of fiction.
