Harry Sivertsen explores the dumbing down of publishing and his experiences with agents and publishers. Is western historical literature being slowly ‘dumbed down’ to pander to a market used to snappy ‘sound bites’ and not having to think as they read? This query arises from the experience of one historical author who was requested by his publisher to ‘spice up’ his works and possibly turn them into novels to make them more acceptable. This case was seen over a year ago on one of the literary agents websites.

Hey, I’ve spent the weekend updating the publishing system. We now support revisions of manuscripts and covers and I hope the feedback when a manuscript is rejected is more descriptive. This was quite a bit overhaul so please be easy on me if there are a couple of bugs here and there. I’ll get them fixed as soon as I can.

I’ve been getting quite a few questions about print-on-demand and the respective advantages and disadvantages or our print-on-demand printers. Both Lightning Source and CPI Antony Rowe do a superb job at making books but each one has a slightly different approach.
