It is said that the best stories have an element of truth in them. It’s certainly accurate in the case of The Smuggler’s Caves, a Completely Novel drawing on the real history of smuggling, which is picking up a lot of heat on the site and around Hastings, where the story is set.
Although smugglers might bring to mind a Famous Five story, this novel is worlds away from Blyton’s cosy 1950s adventures. Fiona Skovronsky, the author, is aware that comparisons might be made, but observes that her story "can
